When most people think of The Tokens they think of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” their 1961 hit that was popularized again in 1994 when included in The Lion King movie. Their contributions to rock and roll history, however, are far greater than is generally recognized. Throughout their career, the airwaves also hummed with dozens of Tokens commercials like “Pan Am makes the going great,” Benson & Hedges,’ “A silly millimeter longer” and many others kept The Tokens on the radio.
